Watch out for

Mealybugs: Isolate the plant and dab infested areas with a cotton bud soaked in methylated spirits.

Root rot: Ensure excellent drainage with gritty compost and withhold water during winter dormancy.

Vine weevil: Use nematode treatments in the soil or apply a systemic insecticide as a preventive measure.

Scale insects: Scrape off visible scales and treat with a horticultural oil spray during warmer months.

Sunburn: Gradually acclimatise the plant to brighter conditions before moving it into full sun.
