Watch out for

Root rot: Ensure excellent drainage with gritty compost and avoid overwatering, especially in winter.

Scale insects: Isolate the plant and treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap applied to affected areas.

Vine weevil: Use nematode treatments in soil or apply systemic insecticides to control larvae and adults.

Mealybugs: Wipe off insects with a damp cloth dipped in methylated spirit or apply insecticidal spray.

Sunburn: Acclimatise plants gradually to full sun and provide shade during peak summer heat if grown in containers.
