Watch out for

Phytophthora root rot: Ensure excellent drainage by planting in sandy, acidic soil and avoid waterlogging the roots.

Honey fungus: Improve air circulation and drainage; remove infected plants if severe to prevent spread.

Winter wet damage: Plant in a well-drained position, preferably on a slope or raised bed, to prevent waterlogging.

Alkaline soil stress: Plant only in acidic to neutral soils; amend alkaline soils with ericaceous compost.

Vine weevil: Use non-chemical controls like nematodes or biological controls available in the UK.
