Watch out for

Root rot: Ensure excellent drainage with gritty compost and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.

Mealybugs: Remove pests manually with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits or apply insecticidal soap.

Spider mites: Increase humidity around the plant and treat with a suitable miticide or insecticidal soap.

Vine weevil: Use nematodes in the soil during warmer months or apply a systemic insecticide to prevent root loss.

Sunburn: Acclimate plants gradually to brighter light and provide shade during intense midday summer sun.
