About GardenWizz
I'm Kevin, and GardenWizz is my project — an independent UK gardening encyclopedia, built and run on my own.
It started because I wanted one place that pulled together plant facts, regional timing and problem-solving for real British conditions — not advice adapted from American climates that has nothing to do with a wet UK spring. I'm a keen gardener and a bit of a tinkerer, and GardenWizz is my attempt to build the resource I wished existed.
I'm not a professional horticulturist or an RHS-trained expert. I'm an enthusiast who got slightly obsessed — so everything here is written to be genuinely useful, checked against good sources, and honest about what it is.
What makes GardenWizz different
- It's built for UK gardens. Frost dates, soil types, regional timing and seasonal jobs are written for British conditions, not adapted from elsewhere. Where timing matters, remember that Scotland and the North typically run a couple of weeks behind the South West and London.
- It's structured, not just articles. The Problem Solver, planting calendar and companion planting tools let you find answers by plant, symptom or season — not just by reading top to bottom.
- It keeps facts honest. The data in the plant fact tables — hardiness ratings, sizes, flowering and pruning months — is taken from cited reference sources. Where a fact isn't available, the field is left blank rather than guessed, so you'll sometimes see a dash in a table. Each plant page lists its source at the bottom.
- It keeps up with the gardening year. Alongside the evergreen guides, I track current UK gardening news, shows and stories.
- It's a genuine labour of love. The whole thing is run by one real person who actually gardens, not a faceless content factory.
A note on getting it right
I want GardenWizz to be accurate and genuinely useful. If you ever spot something wrong — a mistake in a guide, or a plant fact that's off — please tell me. Corrections make the site better for everyone, and I read every message.
For anything involving eating, foraging, or plant toxicity (especially around children or pets), always double-check with an authoritative source before acting. GardenWizz is a guide, not a substitute for expert or veterinary advice on safety. See our disclaimer for more.
Say hello
Email hello@gardenwizz.com with questions, corrections, or just to share what you're growing. I genuinely like hearing from people using the site.
